Frikkin LASERS! Pew Pew Pew!

Laser Cutting

I have a 55 watt CO2 laser system that can handle sheets of stock up to 26 x 14 inches or 26 inches by 72 inches with the conveyor system attached. The conveyor is kind of obnoxious, but it's available when the need arises. This thing can slice through wood, acrylic, leather, rubber, plastics and natural and synthetic fabrics and more, most but not all stuff up to 3/4 of an inch thick in a single pass. It's a beast. Some stuff like plywood tops out at 1/2 inch because the thicker stuff has the tendency to catch on fire.

Laser Engraving

The same 55 watt CO2 Laser can perform highly detailed engraving tasks on an even wider gamut of materials including coated metals, a variety of glasses and ceramics, as well as the aforementioned woods, acrylics, leather, rubber, plastics and fabrics. Same 26 x 14 inch working area for objects up to 8 1/2 inches high and round objects up to 7 inches in diameter with the rotary tool installed. So yes, it can cook designs onto your favorite non-spill mug.

Applications around the shop

When not saving the planet from space invaders, one thing I use the laser machine for is burning the screens for screen printing projects. It enables me to go from image on the computer to working screen in a short amount of time with no chemicals or mess. Another neat thing I've used it for around here is making etched aluminum business cards. They really stand out and you can scrape frost off the car windows with 'em in a pinch. Etching designs onto faux leather patches to be sewn or heat pressed on to jackets and hats is pretty neat, too.

I'll add photos of the various projects

running on the laser here, along with some starting prices for various kinds of work. As with anything, you needn't wait for me to publish a price list, get in touch with your project needs and I can determine the best methods to achieve your goals and quote you a price.
